Boko Haram: No army can have enough equipment for its operations – Buratai - Dailypost news

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, on Wednesday declared that no army can have enough equipment for its operations.

He spoke in response to the recent killing of about 100 soldiers in Metele, Borno State.

Speaking at the 2018 Chief of Army Staff Annual Conference in Maiduguri, the Borno capital, with the theme: “Optimising the operational efficiency of the Nigerian Army towards safeguarding democracy and national security in Nigeria,” Buratai said the army has started to strategise to end the Boko Haram insurgency in the North-East.

According to Buratai: “Internally, there has been violence in some sections of the country, which constitutes security threats to Nigeria’s democracy and existence. The causes of the crises are often for ideological, economic, political, religious and ethnic reasons.

“The fight against Boko Haram in the North-East will continue unabatedly. The army is collaborating with Chad and Cameroon, and we are currently conducting joint operations in adjoining areas.

“No army can have enough equipment to conduct its operations. So it is incumbent on all commanders to know that we are involved in an asymmetric warfare which calls for dynamism and flexibility.”

“Atiku Will Sell Nigeria On Alibaba If Elected President” – Sowore

The Presidential candidate of the Africa Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore has warned that PDP candidate Abubakar Atiku will sell Nigeria on foreign e-Commerce platforms if elected as president of Nigeria.

He mentioned this as a guest a guest of Bounce News’ 60Minutes, where he entertained questions from viewers on his campaign agenda.

One of the issues he spoke about is the proposed sale of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC by former vice president Atiku Abubakar who is the candidate of the PDP.

Sowore was asked what he planned to do with the corporation if elected since the current administration’s efforts at un-bundling it have yielded little results.

Here is what he said:
“The person who unbundled NNPC probably didn’t even understand the meaning of unbundling. You cannot unbundle NNPC and then make yourself the minister of Petroleum Resources. And then he made the Chief of Staff the member of the board of NNPC.”

“People Did Not Join APC Because Of Anybody But Because Of Me” – Okorocha Speaks On Leaving APC

The Governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha yesterday, November 27th declared that he was still a member of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Speaking during a media parley in Owerri, the state capital, Okorocha said he does not intend leaving the party.

He also stated that his former Chief of Staff, Uche Nwosu, who is also a governorship aspirant, and aggrieved aspirants might quit APC to another party to realize their ambitions.

Disclosing that he won’t stop them from quitting, the Governor stressed that Nwosu and all the aggrieved candidates remained his choices and will get his support under any platform they chose to realise their ambitions.

Okorocha said,

“What will happen is that while they move to realise their ambition under any other platform, I remain in APC and support them. Such party will have no presidential candidate but will adopt President Muhammadu Buhari as their candidate.

“What we saw in Imo APC was a clear case of injustice and the worst imposition in history. The party members are aggrieved and they will be moving to another party to pursue their ambitions and I am not going to stop them, but we are going to form alliance with whichever party they choose to deliver President Buhari.

“In the 2019 general election, we are going to vote for candidates and not political parties. I am in the best position to assess the candidates and I know that among all the governorship candidates, Nwosu remains the best. I have told Imo people to check the records of those clamouring to govern the state before voting for them.... The whistleblowing policy introduced by the Buhari administration is paying off as the federal government hinted yesterday that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFFC) had so far recovered over N540 billion from it.

Minister of information and culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, who disclosed this yesterday at the 71st General Assembly of the Broadcasting Organisations of Nigeria (BON) in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, also revealed that the EFCC had successfully launched a major onslaught on the high-and-mighty in the society, leading to the recovery of choice assets across the country.

The minister who was represented by the director of Public Relations and Protocol in the ministry, Mr Sunny Adejoh Baba, noted that the suspects include senior military officers and their civilian accomplices who had soiled their hands with shady deals.

Richard Akindele In Child Pornography, Chanted Incantation - Prosecutor

Federal High Court in Osogbo, on Tuesday, turned down the bail application of a former lecturer with the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Prof Richard Akindele, dragged before court for allegedly demanding sex to upgrade the scores of one of his students, Monica Osagie.

The court rejected the bail application, which Akindele filed through his lawyer, Francis Omotoso, after the prosecuting counsel for the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, Kehinde Ayantoye, opposed the application.

In opposing Akindele’s bail application, the prosecutor filed a counter-affidavit, which was deposed to by a police detective, Afolabi Oluwatoyin.

In her ruling, Justice Maureen Onyetenu said the allegations contained in the counter-affidavit were weighty.

At the resumed hearing of the matter on Tuesday, the prosecutor, Ayantoye, told the court that he had been served with Akindele’s bail application.

He, however, said he had filed a counter-affidavit in opposition.

Moving the bail application for his client, the defence counsel, Omotosho, urged Justice Onyetenu to admit the professor to bail in liberal terms.

But opposing him, the prosecutor told the court that Akindele might not attend trial, alleging that the professor refused to report to the ICPC office in Abuja, after he was granted an administrative bail to travel to America to attend to his health.

The prosecutor further alleged that the embattled professor was caught on tape chanting incantations to derail the case.

He added, in the counter-affidavit, that Akindele was also allegedly involved in child pornography.

Justice Onyetenu said the allegations raised in the counter-affidavit were weighty and directed the prosecutor to produce in court on the next hearing date, the tape in which Akindele was caught allegedly chanting incantations.

While adjourning further hearing till December 17, 2018, the judge ordered that Akindele should be taken back to prison.

Kwankwaso speaks on involvement in release of Ganduje bribe videos.-- Dailypost.ng

Senator representing Kano Central, Dr. Rabiu Kwankwaso says he was aware of the video which showed Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State allegedly receiving money from some contractors.

He, however, said he did everything possible to stop the release to the public but to no avail.

Kwankwaso, a former governor of Kano State, stated this on a live programme on Aminchi FM in Kano.

Senator Kwankwaso said he pleaded with the Publisher of the online newspaper, Daily Nigerian, which released the video, but noted that they refused to heed his plea.

According to him, “I was aware of the video clips before they were released to the public and I pleaded that they should not be released, but they didn’t listen to me.

“I am not happy that the video clips were made public because it is an embarrassment to the state and its people, including myself.”

DAILY POST reports that Ganduje has since been the subject of several videos, which showed him receiving wads of US dollars from persons believed to be contractors.

At least six of such videos have been published since the first clip was released on October 11

The governor, however, denied collecting money from any contractor, describing it as a calculated attempt to impugn his person.

He later sued the online newspaper for N3 billion, despite earlier intervention by the House of Assembly that he should not do so.

Osun: Knocks, accolades as Aregbesola bows out of office today- Dailypost.ng news

As Governor Rauf Adesoji Aregbesola of Osun State bows out of office today and wears the permanent prefix of ‘ex’, political analysts and stakeholders alike have evaluated his eight years in office with accolades and strong knocks.

Aregbesola, a former cabinet member in Lagos State, in charge of works and infrastructure between 1999 and 2007 contested the governorship seat of Osun State alongside Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, a retired military general and former military administrator of Lagos State.

He, therefore, readily got involved in the murky water of Nigerian politics for the first time when the electoral umpire declared his opponent winner of the contest against what he and his political allies considered to be the voting pattern of the people and level of popularity of his party.

Aregbesola, by this scenario rekindled his revolutionary spirit of the 80s in the Polytechnic, Ibadan, when he held sway as the Speaker of the Students’ Parliament and experience gathered in the trenches as pro-democracy fighter in the 90s; he kicked off a legal battle and fought on till his mandate was retrieved on November 27, 2010.

Determined to make a change and justify the efforts and resources expended in the struggle to reclaim his mandate, the governor embarked on aggressive developmental drives vis-a-vis human capital development, not minding the limitation of state’s resources and uncertain source of revenue.

Many applauded Aregbesola for hitting the ground running at the inception of his administration, the dominance of non-indigenes of the state in critical sectors of the economy through consultancy, especially in the area of project execution marked the beginning of resentment against the government, especially from the elite.

Also, many, however, faulted some of his policies on education and health, describing it as being lopsided and crude. For instance, his policy of reclassification in education sector, where the age-long 6334 system of education was changed to 933, which comprises of Elementary, Middle, and Higher schools.

The introduction of computer tablet popularly called ‘Opon Imo ‘ in the senior secondary class, which reportedly gulped billions of naira has been criticised as total failure and a curse to the education sector rather than blessing.........Read more here: http://dailypost.ng/2018/11/27/osun-knocks-accolades-aregbesola-bows-office-today/

WE CANNOT HAVE A FUGITIVE RULING THE COUNTRY – APC ATTACKS ATIKU OVER US TRAVEL BAN - Information Nigeria news

PDP Presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar

The All Progressives Congress has launched an attack on the Peoples Democratic Party’s presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar saying that Nigerians won’t vote a fugitive in the 2019 general elections.

The party challenged the former vice president to clear himself of the alleged travel ban placed on him by the United States of America.

Accusing the PDP of failed attempts to blackmail President Muhammadu Buhari, the APC said it was clear that the party was no credible opposition political party, but a gang of selfish and mercantile politicians that will do anything to return to elective office.

The party in a statement by its Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Yekini Nabena, on Sunday in Abuja accused Atiku and other PDP leaders of promising to sell some national assets, including the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation as payback to some foreign financiers.

“The unwillingness of PDP governors to financially support the 2019 presidential campaign of Atiku Abubakar is already public knowledge. In fact, information is now rife that the Dubai meeting attended by Atiku and other PDP leaders was a last-ditch effort to raise presidential campaign cash from foreign financiers by mortgaging key national economic assets particularly the NNPC as payback.

“This disturbing development must be checked by relevant agencies particularly the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit, the country’s arm of the global financial intelligence unit mandated to collect information on suspicious or unusual financial activity suspected of being money laundering and then share such information with relevant anti-crime or regulatory agencies.

“Again, a challenge the PDP presidential candidate, Alh. Atiku Abubakar must take up is coming clean on the nagging issue of his travel ban to the United States of America following his indictment for corruption in that country.

“To borrow the words of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, we must stop electing rogues, hooligans and criminals into public office. Truly, we cannot have a fugitive occupying the highest office in the country. Our great country, Nigeria deserves better.”
